Founded by our principal, Terry Scanlan, in 1996, Alpine has been one of the Vail Valley’s landmark custom home and commercial builders for over 20 years. Driven by our own exacting standards, we continually strive to strike a balance between price and schedule, without diminishing integrity and quality. PRINCIPALS

One of the benefits of hiring a boutique building company is that the principals remain involved with your project every step of the way. Our principals have a combined 20 plus years of experience as builders and are committed to always putting the client’s needs above their own.

Terry Scanlan

Moving his family from Texas in 1995, Terry founded Alpine Mountain Builders to serve a growing need in the Vail Valley: building beautiful custom homes with precision and honesty at a reasonable price. Having been in several leadership positions prior to Alpine, including founder and managing partner at Waterford Capital Group, LLC, a venture capital firm specializing in the restructuring of privately held manufacturing firms, Terry understands what it means to build a company focused on establishing long-term relationships with its clients. He prides himself not only in the product Alpine delivers, but also in the loyal relationships Alpine has built with customers – often seeing families return for a second or third time to build their dream home.

Terry received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Notre Dame and a MBA from Southern Methodist University. Terry is an avid golfer and lives in Arrowhead with his wife of more than 40 years, Kathy.

Doug Blue

Recognized as a problem solver devoted to detail and quality, Doug understands precisely how each aspect of the design and build correspond; not only from a process perspective, but also ensuring the client’s overall functionality and financial goals are met in the ultimate product. Doug’s vast experience stems from having worked in all facets of the construction industry since moving to the Vail Valley in 1996. Starting out as a carpenter, he’s been involved in every aspect of the construction process. In 2000, he became a project manager, ensuring the highest level of quality on the most complex projects in Colorado. In 2012, Doug became a principal at Alpine, focusing his attention on a select number of projects each year so he can ensure that he provides complete attention to each client. Doug believes in absolute transparency during the building process and recognizes the importance of an informed and engaged client. His passion and excitement is evidenced by his thoughtful approach to design and pledge to excellence down to the smallest detail. Doug is an avid outdoorsman and lives in Cordillera Valley Club with his wife, Erin, and his children, Huntley and Charlie.

Patrick Scanlan

Patrick brings extensive business experience and unwavering enthusiasm to Alpine Mountain Builders, focusing his attention on relationship management, community connection, and business development. Growing up in the family business, Patrick worked along side workers performing whatever task was required. Learning the value of hard work and doing what it takes to get the job done right has served him well throughout his endeavors.  After graduating from the University of Richmond, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Leadership Studies and Business Administration with high distinction, Patrick taught fifth-grade in Harlingen, Texas through Teach for America. In 2013, Patrick earned a Master of Science in Real Estate Finance from the University of Denver where he graduated with the highest GPA in his class. Prior to joining Alpine in 2017, Patrick worked at Newmark Knight Frank where he was involved in over $1 billion multifamily investment sales with a specific focus on Debt and Equity Structuring. He has also held positions at Colorado Business Bank as an Assistant Vice President and at Craft Development as Development Associate.

Justin Hill

Project Manager and Quality Control Specialist, Justin has worked with Alpine for over ten years. Ensuring that every custom build meets Alpine’s exacting standards. Justin oversees the on-site coordination of subcontractors and materials, By using in-house applications to provide updates regarding project progression, Justin ensures that all communication regarding scope, timing and quality remains fluid between Alpine’s Principals and it’s client. A stickler for quality, Justin is a key player in helping Alpine stay ahead of any problems and providing effective solutions. Just graduated from the University of Oklahoma and has lived in the Vail Valley for over 16 years. He’s an avid fisherman and hiker.
